Yesterday, I took half day leave to celebrate EL's 35th with her at the Equinox. We had high tea there from 3.30pm to 5.30pm. The view from the 70th storey was magnificent in the day. The food was definitely decent and the company delightful. We had lemon bush tea for two amongst other delectable eats.
EL will be running her very first marathon on 6 Dec, next Sunday. Running has become her passion of late and it will be her first attempt in running 42km after having ran two half marathons of 21km. She hopes to complete the marathon within five and a half hours and I'm quite certain that she can do it with her perseverance.
I've invited her to the Christmas Eve musical at ACS at Dover Rd on 24 Dec but she has yet to give an affirmative answer. I hope she can make it. I'll ask her again when we meet to celebrate my birthday. My prayer for this dear friend is still for to come to know the Lord Jesus personally. Lord, may your Holy Spirit work in her heart in your own time... though I hope it is sooner rather than later...

why does wine gladden a man's heart?
why does oil make one's face shine?
how does bread sustain a person's heart?
i do not know all the whys or how but
i know that indeed

Z & E's new flat & E's brother
Just making a note here that Z & E's new flat will probably be ready in 2012 May, 3 years from now, and it's located in Fernvale near Jalan Kayu. E's brother is a helpful fellow.
Update: 29 Dec 2010 - apparently, Z & E has giving up the application of the new flat. Not sure about their future plans now. ST has not spoken to Z since Feb 2010 till now, Dec 2010. Praying that their relationship will take a turn for the better in 2011.

Testimony of My Christian Journey for Transfer of Membership to ARPC
I thank God for my Christian heritage as my maternal grandfather is the first Christian in my family who came to know the Lord in the 1930s through the preaching of John Sung in Malacca. Biblically speaking, I know I have been chosen to be saved by the Lord even before the foundations of the earth have been lain (Ephesians 1:4). However, as I reflect upon my salvation, baptism and now transfer of membership, I can trace God's hand upon my life through various churches I have attended.
I can safely say that some have planted in my life, some have watered but truly it has been God who has given the growth. I pray that as I journey on homewards as a pilgrim, I can continue to worship and serve in ARPC as I have done so for the past 8 years with a deepening commitment, Lord willing. May I be a blessing to this community as much as it has blessed me.

Elsa's 1st Birthday - 19 May 2009
We had a simple celebration for Elsa's 1st Birthday at her home in Sims Drive. It was a party of immediate family, me and godma Alice joining us over the webcam. We had lots of sushi and a smiley cake from Angie the Choice. :-)
Lord, I thank you for having watched over baby Elsa since her conception from the time she has been in her mum's womb till now that she is 1 year old. I pray for this dear little god daughter of mine that she will grow to know, love and serve you all the days of her life!
p.s. For her 1st birthday, I gave her a plush rabbit which I bought from Perth.
p.p.s. I realised that for Illary's 1st birthday on 23 Nov 2012, I gave her a plush rabbit too! One which I bought from Mothercare from KKH, Singapore.

Elsa's Baby Dedication - 1 Nov 2008
About two weeks ago, Ed was in town. I had the privilege of witnessing Elsa's baby dedication by both Ed & Seok Ting. It was held in the function room of Dover Parkview condo. The people present were mainly members from Seok Ting's FCBC cell group, Elsa's 2 aunties (Seok Har & Zoe) and me.
Elsa was born on 19 May 2008 and in 4 days from now, she'll be 6 months old. I truly thank God for giving the precious daughter to Ed & Seok Ting. I pray that Elsa will grow up to be a beautiful lady who is devoted to the Lord.
Father, watch over this precious baby girl whom you have brought into the world. I pray that in days to come, she will have a saving and believing knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Elsa's 1st Month
Yesterday, I celebrated Elsa's 1st month by bringing over a cake, some flowers with a pink bear, a baby dress, another one piece suit that says "Cutest Baby Ever", some toys, a mobile to be fixed over the baby cot, pacifiers for different stages 0-6 months and 6-18 months and a soft toy that says "It's a girl" with a 12 sec voice recording function. I'm really a very doting godma! :-D

Studying Again
I've accepted the offer to take up the Bachelor of Communication at uniSIM starting July 2008. Last Wednesday, I went for the welcome talk and sent in my reply slip. Come July, I'll be hitting the books for real again. This seems a bit unreal but I guess it is about time.
I've not done this part-time studying act before. I hope I can pull it off. With God's help.

Book Project
About 2 months ago, I chanced upon a book that Zoe wrote as her final year project when she was studying at La Salle. Gwen and I were keen to to help her bring it into publication. She wanted to revise it. It is still in Gwen's office right now. I hope we can help her fulfill her dream of publishing it.
It isn't a profound autobiography. But it speaks with clarity of the difficulty and yet at the same time is filled with hope, positive vibes and cheer of one who suffered hearing impairment at a tender age of 2. It gave a glimpse for me at least into the world of one deprived of the sense of hearing. I so wished that more people can read her life story and understand that in modern Singapore, there live a group of these people who are deprived of their sense of hearing. Often they are voiceless because they are too shy to speak up.

Recent Reflections on a Funeral
A good friend's mum passed away last friday. Her mum underwent an operation to remove a brain tumor a year ago and soon after, was diagnosed with breast cancer. This friend of mine has been undergoing a lot of stress carrying the weight of being the head of her household since her dad passed away when she was 20. She is 34 this year. Both her parents were born deaf. Her older sis started to suffer from schizophrenia when her dad passed away and her younger sis was deprived of her hearing at 1 year old because of an illness.
At the funeral, I got to communicate with quite a number of hearing impaired people mainly through simple handsigns and writing. It was a new experience as I hardly ever come in contact with hearing impaired people. I was surprised that many of them have a great sense of humour and were very outgoing and friendly. In fact, at the table where I sat, only the lady next to me and I were hearing people and the rest (about 8) of them were not. We who are so called normal felt a little handicapped as we were the minority while most of them went on having conversations around the table. It was also interesting to learn that handsigns had different varieties. Those from Singapore mostly used handsigns in English and there was a couple who signed in Chinese (from Taiwan). Apparently, certain gestures for the same words are different but through patience and some humour, communication is definitely still possible.
I also came away from the funeral amazed at how the cell group which my friend belonged to played such a major role in making the funeral arrangements, carrying out the wake service and how supportive they were to the bereaved. I saw the concept of a cell church in action. Most of all, I saw God's love at work. There are still a lot of needs in this bereaved family but I am certain that the Lord who has been seeing them through thus far will continue to show His care for them through the hands and feet and hearts of His children. In the meantime, I am helping to raise the shortfall of S$3000 for the funeral expenses for them. Please pray with me that my contacts who has read my emails will consider chipping in to help them.
